Are you wondering why we chose the name Adlernest?
Quite simple really.
- Education begins from the birth of young into the world.
- They are dependent upon what they are feed by their parents.
- The nest is a place of safety, comfort and warmth.
- The eaglets will learn all they need to know for life from the nest
- The parents are protectors of their offspring.
- Adlerjunge are being prepared for the day they are launched into the wind, and will soar on their own
I am sure you can see the connections to us humans!!
How did this site come about?
This site was conceived as a response to a variety of different ideas.
- There is a plethora of English home-educating resources sites online. There was nothing in German.
- The need for vital information to be accessible, public and in one place - a hub.
- So many German home-educating families suffer under the burden of punitive fines and measures that being able to provide free resources made sense.
- Offering the many people outside of Germany who are home-educating to contribute in a practical way, right here and now, while the campaign continues for legalisation of home-education in Germany.
- Providing a time-based means for supporting German home-educators instead of purely a finance-based request.

Fliege hinaus junger Adler,
hinaus in alle Welt,
lerne zu leben
und das -
was Dir gefällt.
Fliege hoch hinaus
über das weite Land,
und lass Dich nicht
beirren-durch das,
was andere Dir sagen.
Sei stolz auf Dich,
auf Dich allein,
lass Dich nicht fangen-
Du würdest dieses Erlebnis
sicherlich bereuen.
Mein junger Adler,
so lebe Dein Leben,
und denke auch daran
zu kämpfen-
wenn dies nötig ist.
So wirst Du, junger Adler,
auch einmal älter,
gib Deine Erfahrungen
dann weiter-
an Deine Kinder.

After we chose the name, it came to our attention that Hitler also had a house by this nick-name (given to it by the French Prime Minister at the time), that he visited about 10 times, that some German's may find the connection offensive.
Instead we see this as an irony, that the vision of this site is counter to that of his Reich, and the very law that still affects educational freedom today.
We sincerely hope that this site will be an even greater testimony to the strength of the German people, rising up against a legacy of control, whoever it was imposed by.
